1 Kings 3:7-9 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, although I am only a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people, so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this your great people?’

When my son David’s reign was over, his son Solomon, all of 20 years old, inherited the throne. His beginnings, like his father’s, were humble and seeking of my counsel. He knew that when someone is in charge of a people, they should be overwhelmed by the task and responsibility of caring for those many people’s wellbeing. It saddens me deeply that my son Solomon could not retain that wisdom. Today I ask you to pray for leaders in your midst, that they might ground themselves in humility for your sake, for my sake, and for the sake of those entrusted to their care. Seek also that same humility for those entrusted to your care, for I have entrusted you with responsibility for many now and in the future.
