Philippians 2:1-2 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
What Paul asks of the church in Philippi is no easy task. He asks it with love because he cares for them so much, and he knows it will help them grow in their support of each other and their relationship with me. But it is heartbreakingly rare that my followers are able to engage the level of humility necessary to find any sort of unity around how to be my people together. And so today I invite you simply to pray for the church, that it could be a place for people to escape the conflict and dissent sown in the world and a place of compassion. For that is the secret, my child: an abundance of compassion is what leads to being of one mind in Christ, not an abundance of facts.
